Installing a step-down transformer with an IP40 protective enclosure demands attention to ventilation routing and cable entry management:

1) Ventilation & Clearances: While the IP40 steel casing effectively blocks tools and heavy dust, it relies on precisely designed louvers and internal convection to cool the resin coils. You must position the cabinet so that there is at least 0.8m of clearance on the louvered sides, and the indoor room must have an active exhaust system to expel the hot air emitted from the top vents.

2) Cable Entry Sealing: The cabinet comes with designated, sealable access ports (usually at the top or bottom). After routing your 10/20kV incoming lines and 0.4kV outgoing busbars/cables, the entry points must be meticulously sealed to preserve the IP40 rating, preventing rodents or dense dust from entering the high-voltage zones.

3) Grounding the Enclosure: In addition to the standard core grounding, the IP40 steel casing itself must be bonded to the substation's main earth grid (resistance ≤4Ω) to ensure absolute touch safety for operating personnel.
